The Mobile and Vision Laboratory is developing a number of state of the art medical monitoring and diagnostic systems. These include devices to monitor respiration in a noncontact manner, non x-ray methods of assessing bone density and screening for bone fracture, human movement pattern monitoring and vocal cords dysfunction assessment. A life saving device developed in collaboration with Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust (called ‘BREATHEASY’) measures respiration rates in children in a noncontact manner. An NIHR funding was received to develop this device that has been successfully tested against contact based respiration rate monitoring methods.
