The Speech and Hearing Research Group – SPAndH – (based in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Sheffield) is one of the world’s top laboratories in the area of computational hearing, speech perception and speech technology algorithms/applications.  Major research themes include computational auditory scene analysis, missing data methods for robust automatic speech recognition in difficult environments, large vocabulary continuous speech recognition (particularly in meetings) and clinical applications of speech technology.  A proportion of the research is concerned with speech-based human-robot interaction and using robots as experimental platforms to investigate vocal interactivity.

SPandH staff who are working at the intersection of speech and robotics are:

Prof. Roger K. Moore

Prof. Guy Brown

Dr. Jon Barker

Dr. Samuel Fernando

Dr Charles Fox

Dr Ning Ma

Dr Ricard Marxer
